Dear Secretary General Mark Rutte,
As Secretary General of NATO you are on a campaign. You are on military campaign. Your objective is to promote a new military spending target. You want to impose on the 32 members of the NATO alliance a 5% of gross domestic product (GDP) within the next 10 years.
When a British journalist asked you, last week at Chatham House conference about the possible social impacts of the famous 5% of GDP allocated to spending, you replied:
If you don’t reach 5%, you can have your old-age pension programs and your healthcare system, but you’d better learn to speak Russian!” quipped the Secretary General, who had just explained that Russia alone is capable of producing more munitions in three months than all 32 NATO allies combined in a year.
I must tell you, as a single mother of a young man, I am astounded by your level of arrogance towards democracy and the people! It’s totally mind-boggling. Sir, you are not an elected official, you have no right to dictate to Western governments and the canadian government how to manage public spending. This is the money of the people. In fact, people want to maintain their quality of life. People want to invest in the education of their children, they want to maintain quality in the health services and maintain pensions for the elderly.
Your arrogance toward democracy aims to subject us to your will and the will of the businessmen who run the military industries. It’s totally shameful!
I’m fed up with all your wars! It’s written in the sky that if you push military spending further, more wars will appear everywhere on this planet. There are others means to resolve conflicts than the destruction of millions of human beings! There are others means than to satisfy the greed of certain military businessmen
I’m sure there are tens of millions of women and mothers like me, who share the same concerns about the future of their children.
So here are my recommandations to produce a geopolitical change for a better future:
Mr. Rutte today, go towards those you consider your enemies and, start a constructive dialogue
Mr. Rutte today, use the iron of the cannons to produre others things then weapons
Mr. Rutte today put your influence to create the conditions for the convergence of cultures and people
Mr. Rutte, today, with your alliance help the world to create the first planetary civilization!
Finally, I am hoping that during the G7 meeting with government leaders elected by the people, you will be more lenient toward the canadian population. I invite you to take this opportunity to visit some of our schools, hospitals, and senior centers.
Sincerely yours, Anne Farrell
