Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has firmly rejected President Trump’s proposal to send US troops to Mexican territory to fight drug cartels. On Saturday, Sheinbaum gave details about a call she had with Trump last month.
President Claudia Sheinbaum said, “In one of the calls, he told me that it was important for the US Army to enter Mexico to help us in the fight against drug trafficking. And I want to say that it is true that in some of the calls, but not as he mentioned, he said: ‘How can we help you fight drug trafficking? I propose that the United States Army come in to help you.’ And you know what I said? ‘No, President Trump, the territory is inviolable. Sovereignty is inviolable. Sovereignty is not for sale. Sovereignty is loved and defended.’”
For his part, Trump lashed out at Sheinbaum, saying, ‘She is so afraid of the cartels that she can’t even think straight.’
