The administration of cricket in Bangladesh is undergoing a radical transformation. Moving past a long period of administrative stagnation, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is now on a path of systemic reform. This transformation has been initiated by a newly formed 11-member ad-hoc committee appointed by the National Sports Council, with a vision that extends beyond the field to ensure internal transparency and safety at every level.
The Emergence of New Leadership
In this interim committee, led by former national captain Tamim Iqbal, the most discussed name is Barrister Rashna Imam. As the sole female member of the committee, she stands not only as a symbol of gender equality but also brings professional legal expertise that adds a new dimension to the BCB’s administrative reforms. She has been entrusted with critical and sensitive departments, including the Women’s Wing, the Medical Committee, and the Complaint Committee.
Criticism and Accountability
Despite being a new face in the sporting arena, Barrister Rashna Imam has embraced the ensuing discussions and criticisms with a positive outlook. In an exclusive interview with the International Press Agency- Pressenza, she stated that establishing good governance in a public-facing organization like the BCB is her primary challenge.
‘I am not concerned about criticism,’ she remarked. ‘The BCB is a public platform, so it is natural for there to be public discourse. My main goal is to fulfill my assigned responsibilities by eliminating long-standing irregularities and building an accountable framework.’
Reflections on Safe Environment and Human Rights
In alignment with the core values of human rights and non-violence, the concept of a ‘Safe Environment’ is receiving special priority under this new administration. Creating a non-discriminatory and secure workplace for female cricketers is one of Rashna Imam’s top priorities. She believes that her legal background will be instrumental in establishing a robust Complaint Mechanism within the board to ensure the protection of both players and staff.
Future Roadmap: Reform and Election
The current objectives of the ad-hoc committee include:

Administrative Reform: Eliminating long-standing bureaucratic complexities and irregularities.
Financial Transparency: Ensuring accountability in every transaction of the BCB.
Participatory Election: Organizing a credible and democratic election to form a full board.

BCB President Tamim Iqbal has granted the committee members full independence to operate. Stakeholders hope that the inclusion of skilled professionals like Barrister Rashna Imam will not only bring transparency but also foster a modern and humanitarian administrative culture within Bangladesh cricket.
This transition in Bangladesh’s cricketing landscape is a significant step forward, potentially setting a positive global example for sports governance.
