Pedro Castillo’s Defense Team Files Complaint for Conspiracy to Incite Rebellion

After Miguel Torres, a member of Keiko Fujimori’s presidential ticket (from the Popular Force party), stated in an interview that “removing Mr. Castillo was not easy” and that “the journalists did it, Congress did it, and the Public Prosecutor’s Office did it as well. In other words, it was truly a concerted effort to get that man out,” the legal defense team for former President Pedro Castillo filed a complaint against those likely involved in a conspiracy to remove him from office.

The evidence presented by Castillo Terrones’ defense team reveals a modus operandi that began in the early days of the presidential term and includes: party-led commissions to investigate the government’s first 100 days, three motions to remove him from office on grounds of moral incapacity; pressure on authorities and international entities to issue statements delegitimizing Castillo’s mandate.

In addition, there were accusations of treason, investigative commissions, requests for resignation by the Congress of the Republic, recommendations to indict the president for alleged crimes of criminal organization, and the formation of a Special Team of Prosecutors Against Corruption in Power (EFICCOP), which was later disbanded. Many of these measures fall outside the established legal framework.

The criminal complaint alleging the crime of conspiracy to commit rebellion is filed against Congress members Martha Moyano and José Williams, Patricia Benavides (former Attorney General), Raúl Alfaro (former commander of the National Police), Miguel Torres (candidate for second vice president for Fuerza Popular), and any others found to be responsible.

The legal defense team for former President Pedro Castillo asserts that there was likely coordination among various actors in the Congress of the Republic, the Attorney General’s Office, and the National Police to remove the president from office. Beyond the fact that this is the first time a high-ranking Fujimori supporter has admitted to a conspiracy against Castillo, the revelation puts the public on high alert, as Fuerza Popular is currently a candidate for the presidency of the Republic. If they lose in the runoff… will history repeat itself? We have been warned.
