What exactly do we want to create with AI? Changing the world or become slaves of Big Tech

8 മിനിറ്റ് വായിച്ചു

The AI for Good Global Commission will be launched at the ITU’s AI for Good Global Summit 2026 (7-10 July) in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Summit is part of Digital Week where a series of digital cooperation events is taking place which includes the first UN-mandated Global Dialogue on AI Governance.

The AI for Good Global Commission mission is to expand access, strengthen public trust in AI.

This initiative brings together leaders from government, business and international organizations to advance practical pathways to unlocking AI’s potential.

The newly formed Commission will play a role in the global AI landscape. By connecting leaders who build technology, deploy it at scale, shape policy and represent communities. The Commission members seek to help forge responsible AI solutions across sectors and borders while ensuring the participation of developing countries.

Looking at the list of members of this commission, we quickly conclude that the majority come from the private sector, and especially from Big Tech. But the biggest problem with AI today is precisely the approach prioritized by the commission, which focuses on the specific interests of Big Tech corporations rather than on the needs of the people.

Furthermore, the commission states that his mission is for the greater good. However, the commission members fail to define what constitutes the greater good.

It seems quite clear to everyone that the CEO of a Big Tech company works primarily for the good of the corporation, while the well-being of others is a secondary priority. It seems equally clear to everyone that the well-being of shareholders of the corporation is even more important than the well-being of the population.

Therefore, from the outset, it appears that this commission is on the wrong track, since the well-being of the population is relegated to second place. Stating this fact does not diminish the good intentions of its members. Simply put, it questions the foundations and the origin circumstances surrounding the creation of this commission which suggest a direction that isn’t necessarily for the best interests of the people.

If this commission truly desires the well-being of the people, it’s essential that its members better define the greater good. For example, AI for good and the creation of a world without wars, allowing children in developing countries to have a future free from constant violence. Or AI for good, by creating conditions to struggle against climate change, to ensure support for farmers facing enormous challenges; to avoid natural disasters in the future, etc. AI for the well-being of women, and so on.

Another problematic, this commission doesn’t include members from civil society organizations nor from the public education sector or members from the open-source AI (non-profit organizations).

AI a tool to create the condition to change to world

Unlike digital technology, AI is a tool that allows human beings to create. To create possibilities and opportunities. This technology prompts us to question our own living conditions and our future. In this context the most important question is precisely: what exactly do we want to create? What kind of world do we want to live in? And how do we want to live?

I don’t believe we should leave these crucial questions in the hands of a few Big Tech CEOs. I believe we need to pause for a moment and reflect on these questions.

For the first time in human history, we have the opportunity to collectively ask ourselves these questions and we must do it now. The longer we delay our reflection on our collective future, the more space we give to the Big Tech to decide how we will live in the near future. Futhermore we know the first priority of these Big Tech is not the well-being of the people.
