AMMPE stands for Asociación Mundial de Mujeres Periodistas y Escritoras (World Association of Women Journalists and Writers). The association initially established itself in several South American countries to advocate for women’s rights, their place in the profession, and to combat inequality and violence. This network is now established in some forty countries across three continents.
The World Association of Women Journalists and Writers (AMMPE) was founded in 1969 in Mexico City by distinguished journalist and writer Gloria Salas de Calderón. Recognizing the need for a global platform to amplify women’s voices in media and literature, she brought together women from Latin America and beyond.
Since its founding, AMMPE has grown to encompass chapters in more than 40 countries across five continents. The organization has held numerous international congresses, published anthologies and research, and has been a beacon of press freedom and gender equality.
Today, AMMPE continues its mission under dedicated leaders who carry forward the founder’s vision of a world where women’s voices are equally heard, respected, and celebrated.
The next congress of the World Association of Women Journalists and Writers (AMMPE World) will take place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from November 25 to 27, 2026.
This will be the association’s 26th congress, held every two years in a different country.
The congress is open to all women journalists, writers, and those working in the communications field. It offers a unique forum for exchange, discussion, and information sharing. AMMPE aims to amplify women’s voices and demands and to defend press freedom through this vast cross-border platform.
