The federal government has deprived hundreds of thousands of unaccompanied minors of legal assistance. Many will soon face an impossible choice: navigating our immigration system on their own or risking detention and deportation.
Our city is taking action. We have invested $16.9 million in immigration legal services for unaccompanied minors, with an additional $32 million allocated in this year’s budget for immigration legal services, including emergency legal counseling and legal representation for individuals in detention.
