PCAN Launches Faith Leaders’ Virtual Summit Dialogue on Global Abolition of Nuclear Weapons

2 മിനിറ്റ് വായിച്ചു

In response to the growing threat of nuclear war and the leadership of Pope Francis, PCAN (the Pax Christi New England Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons) conducted a survey last year of North American Catholics on their knowledge of and attitudes toward nuclear weapons, in collaboration with the Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, which has posted our full survey report on its website here

The responses to that survey documented the extensive work many Catholics have already done to abolish nuclear weapons, the deep concern of many others, and a significant potential to activate a great many more to work for a world without nuclear weapons.

With this goal in mind, PCAN is launching a virtual summit in four sessions. Each session will feature 4-6 Catholic and other faith leaders, who will speak briefly, exchange ideas, and field audience questions on activating Catholics to work for the global abolition of nuclear weapons. See more details here: https://tinyurl.com/5mkzwk8c

We believe that the ideas presented and actions inspired by these faith leaders will significantly advance PCAN’s goals to:

amplify the teachings of Popes Francis and Leo on the abolition of nuclear weapons;
build upon Archbishop John C. Wester’s groundbreaking 2022 pastoral letter, Living in the Light of Christ’s Peace: A Conversation Toward Nuclear Disarmament;
help advocates to promote these teachings among Catholic hierarchy, laity, and beyond;
generate momentum, especially among Catholics, for a global commitment to a world without nuclear weapons by 2030.
