We Must Choose to Act and Not Despair

We are deeply grateful to all who joined us for the 6th Joint Nakba Remembrance Ceremony. Your presence, messages of solidarity, and the overwhelming support for our courageous speakers who shared their stories and testimonies with such clarity, dignity, and hope, have truly moved us.

In the face of deepening injustice and ongoing violence, we remain committed to taking action: ending the war permanently, strengthening our Palestinian-Israeli community, and advancing joint projects that resist occupation and bring us closer together.

If you’d like to share your thoughts or reflections on the ceremony, we invite you to complete the short survey below. And as always, you’re welcome to reach out to us directly – we’d love to hear from you.

There were many shared memories that have stayed with us over the weekend and will linger for a long time in our thoughts, but we will leave you with two quotes from speakers in the ceremony that we hope will resonate with you, as they did with us.

Dr. Thabet Abu Ras, a well-known academic, social and political activist;

“And today, after 77 years, history repeats itself.

It’s my turn, like my mother’s, to witness my people’s Nakba and to be silent.

I am a man of complex identity – Palestinian-Israeli –

watching, an hour and a quarter away from my aunt and I cannot provide her a bag of flour

Just like the rest of Gazans, my aunt and relatives suffer from starvation”

Dr. Lee Mordachai, an associate professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem;

“We must choose to act and not despair.

Identify what we can do that might help, and simply do it.

Resist injustice wherever resistance is possible. Undermine injustice wherever that is

possible, and above all, create an alternative where possible.

Every action opposed to our surrounding reality based on kindness, understanding, and tolerance is an act of resistance.”

As we move on from our Joint Memorial season and approach the scorching heat of summer, our hearts are with those who face these months without water, food, or safety. In Gaza, the West Bank, and across the region, the basic necessities of life remain out of reach for so many.

Thank you for not turning away. Your willingness to witness, to listen, and to stay present with us matters deeply. In the coming weeks, we’ll continue sharing stories from our community, updates from the ground, and opportunities to take meaningful action in solidarity.
